Longer, Healthier Life Is Possible For Men With These Practices

Man In Safety Equipment

On average, women are projected to live longer than men do, but as time goes on, there is an increase in life expectancy expected to be more significant for men than women by 2060, according to the United States Census Bureau. As the long-standing perception of women caring more about their health than men, it’s important to have those regular checkups and care about your health at an early age. The CDC cites that the life expectancy for men is five years less than women, and there are many factors that contribute to these statistics that contribute to the higher rates of mortality among men than women. Heart disease is still the leading cause of death in men throughout the United States, with 1 in 4 deaths per year. As risks like these continue to permeate our overall health, finding ways of caring for your health little by little can make lowering these risks much easier.

Finding Ways To Care For Your Health

Those with occupational jobs that require high physical demand have even worse risks to contend with when it comes to their health. When comparing the life expectancy of those working in high-demand jobs, men and women with high physical work demands have a lower life expectancy with some form of disability than those who work in psycho-social work careers, such as working in an office. Overall, the high demands of physical labor can, in fact, harm our health over time and increase the risk of heart disease, cancer, chronic respiratory illnesses, and stroke.

Here are some ways we recommend caring for your health and giving your body the attention it needs for staying healthy:

  • Regular Checkups: Having regular checkups with your primary care doctor can help not only build a trusted relationship but can also help you recognize symptoms that may often not appear obvious. Many medical conditions often either go unnoticed or ignored, and when medical conditions get ignored, they can become worse. Having regular screenings for blood pressure, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and cholesterol readings can help detect any problems early and treat them appropriately.
  • Eating Well: While prime rib and beer sound like an amazing meal, eating fatty, high salt and sugar meals more often than you should harm your body. Getting minerals, vitamins, fiber, and lean proteins throughout your diet can help your body maintain your health.
  • Exercise Regularly: Even while manual labor jobs can be physically exhausting, improving the core strength of your muscles, heart, and inner core can help assist your job and play a critical role in preventing injuries. Performing core strengthening exercises at least 30 minutes per day can greatly improve your health over time.
  • Mental Check-ins: Mental health is becoming just as important as your physical health, and even with the current stigmas surrounding it, if you are suffering from anxiety, stress, depression, or any other mental health issue, then it’s important to ask for health and seek help from a mental health professional.

Seek Urgent Care As Your Provider

As an urgent care facility, we emphasize the importance of caring for your health long-term, especially if you perform in a high-risk environment that places you at a higher risk for disability earlier on in life. For men, defying these statistics through simple acts can be a great way to manage their health and life a fuller, happier life.
